The Nigerian startup changing the face of medical education

OTRAC, which participated in the third cohort Injini’s incubation programme, is an e-learning application that supports continuing medical education for African healthcare practitioners.

The startup came about when founder and CEO Farida Kabir was serving as an intern at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) during the 2014 – 2015 Ebola outbreak in the country.

“There was a need to build the capacity of different categories of healthcare workers on management of Ebola patients and also on infection prevention and control but the resources available wasn’t enough to do that at a larger scale,” says Farida.

OTRAC’s vision is to be the solution that will bridge the learning gap and enhance capacity development in the African healthcare industry for improved service delivery.

Farida first heard about Injini when she saw a retweet from one of their alumni on Twitter.

“Bola, from Schorlar X wrote a tweet about how it helped his business move to the next phase and I was convinced it was the right place for me to be, mostly because of how dedicated Injini is to EdTech,” says Farida.

Since then, participating in Injini’s incubation programme has helped Farida narrow down her target market and focus on the key segments to drive revenues in her startup.

She urges other startups not to procrastinate, to go ahead and apply for Injini’s incubation programme.
