Bianca Daniels (24) from Strandfontein Village in Cape Town, can be described as someone who values herself and is respectful. She is a spiritual person that appreciates fairness and honesty. She believes that no matter what we do in our lives, our destiny is already decided. This unshaken belief that life will work out as it should, is one of the reasons she has been able to persevere despite multiple setbacks.
Bianca attended St. Augustine’s Primary School and South Peninsula High School before beginning her degree in Music Science at the University of Cape Town. Bianca started taking music as an extra mural activity in grade 3 and her love for music is the reason she decided to pursue an education in music at UCT. Her dream of becoming a classroom music teacher came crumbling down in her 3rd year when she realized the pressure of turning music into a career killed her passion for music. After dropping out of university, she started teaching music at Muizenberg Junior School and performing part-time. When the 2020 pandemic hit and everything was shut down due to restrictions, Bianca was left without any form of income. Worried about an uncertain future, Bianca spent her days full of anxiety, couped up in her room binge-watching series to forget about her reality of no job, no degree, and 6 years of being a part-time violin teacher on her CV.
Despite these challenging times, Bianca held on to the words, “More sal die son weer skyn”(tomorrow the sun will shine again) and the belief that the tide would soon turn.
Bianca decided to take her life back, she went vegan and started looking for jobs that would launch her into the next phase of her life. She received a position at the Amazon call centre unit, ventured back into teaching music, but this was short-lived when she realized that the industry had changed forever due to the pandemic. She then realized that it was time to up-skill herself and do something that would guarantee future employment, no matter the circumstances and this is when she came across the CapaCiTi Data Administration Learnership. Bianca saw this opportunity as her chance to shift gears in her life and career.
The CapaCiTi learnership offered Bianca an opportunity to learn how to prepare for the world of work while learning relevant skills. She states that, “I especially enjoyed the part of the learnership that focused on understanding ourselves and our personalities in a workspace and our mindsets in our journey through life. We learned relevant skills that made me computer competent and workspace ready. I particularly give thanks to the mock-interview training, which helped immensely with my interview for my new job, to the point where I was offered my current job during my interview.”
Bianca got a placement at Peach Payments, a well-known and respected FinTech company that is an African online payment payment gateway with easy ecommerce integrations and personalised multi-channel support. “Peach Payments is amazing and there is so much to learn in the online shopping space.” says Bianca, especially since she loves online shopping, getting to see and work with the backend of online payments is exciting to her. “Bianca is a well-rounded individual who has shown so much potential since joining our team. Bianca shows traits of leadership in her dealing with customers and colleagues and is a wonderful asset to our Peach Payments team” – Nadine Martin, Operations Lead.
To any CapaCiTi candidates currently studying, Bianca shares some words of encouragement. “See every step as an opportunity to learn. Have faith in yourself and your abilities. Everything in your life is happening exactly as it should as long as your intentions are always pure”.
