Khayelitsha Bandwidth Barn empowers surrounding communities through SmartTech Training programme

Since 2016, Cape Innovation and Technology Initiative and the Khayelitsha Bandwidth Barn have empowered more than 400 informal traders with the basic tech skills to run their businesses.

The Ward 31 Business Network Workshop focused on creating sustainable jobs, opportunities, and support for the businesses operating in the Informal Economy in Bonteheuwel and surrounding communities. The workshop hosted local entrepreneurs looking for support and funding, including artists interested in learning how to profit from their skills.

General Manager of the Khayelitsha Bandwidth Barn, Fezeka Mavuso, addressed and engaged with individuals from Bonteheuwel, Valhalla Park and Nooitgedaght about the SmartTech Informal trader programme. The purpose of the programme is to equip informal traders with digital skills to take their business online.

The Khayelitsha Bandwidth barn has impacted the township economy by educating, upscaling, and supporting our entrepreneurs. We want to help other communities with resources made possible by our relationship with Cape Innovation and Technology Initiative and the City of Cape Town.
