The Rwanda Bioeconomy Hub launch was aired on Rwanda TV

It’s an exciting time for Rwanda’s bioeconomy sector with the launch of the Rwanda Bioeconomy Hub; a state of-the-art laboratory facility offering advanced skills and entrepreneurial training programmes. This prestigious launch was celebrated and aired on Rwanda TV’s news bulletin.

Excitement surrounding the event was palpable as attendees, including local leaders and aspiring biotech professionals, toured the new facilities, which are set to empower the next generation of Rwandan bioeconomy leaders. The launch took place in September 2024 and in attendance were high-profile guests such as Honourable Claudette Irere, the Minister of State for Education in Rwanda, and Her Excellency Heike Uta Dettmann, German Ambassador to Rwanda.

The hub is strategically located at the University of Rwanda’s College of Science and Technology’s Nyarugenge Campus, next to a building where UNIPOD, a centre for research and innovation is operating from. Through this initiative, young people in Rwanda are gaining the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals. This is made possible by UVU Bio in partnership with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), as well as the Ministry of Education of Rwanda (MINEDUC) and the University of Rwanda.
