Access a Future Pipeline of Software Development Talent by hiring a CapaCiTi Graduate

In March 2020 CapaCiTi, in partnership with Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT)launched a 12 month ICT Technical Skills Training programme to support the Western Cape ICT sector by addressing its critical skills shortages.  The programme is a testament to the fact that unemployed school leavers and graduates have the potential to participate in both the infrastructure and software spheres of the technology industry at an industry acceptable level of ICT certification and employability skills.

The 12-month skills accelerator programme trained candidates in front end (HTML, CSS)and software development languages such as Java, Python, SQL and JavaScript Frameworks.  Candidates were allocated to 3 streams aligned with external vendor certification as follows:

JavaScript – Microsoft Technology Associate Introduction to Programming using JavaScript.

Python – Microsoft Technology Associate Introduction to Programming using Python.

The application-based design of the programme enabled candidates to work as a team and apply these skills across the Software Development lifecycle, culminating in the delivery of working prototypes at the end of their internship placemenat Younglings who are a non-profit software development internship incubator affiliated to ABSA.

Candidates worked extensively on their personal development and work ready skills through a series of Job Critical Skills interventions such as business presentations, remote working skills, communication platforms (MS Teams, Slack, Discord) and extensive teamwork activities.

We are now delighted to offer tech companies access to our graduates who have excelled in the programme and are immediately available for employment opportunitiesCandidates have experience in implementing web design, mobile applications and other software development projects. In a junior level capacity they have participated on projects and implemented applications such as e-hailing, booking systems, gamese-learning systems to name a few.
