CapaCiTi graduates celebrate study loan relief

At the beginning of 2021, CapaCiTi Digital Career Accelerator launched the #LoanFree campaign as an offer to ease the difficulties faced by graduates in the harsh job market. CapaCiTi announced this offer to immediately cancel the contingent student loans held by its 2018, 2019 and 2020 cohorts. The Digital Career Accelerator recognised that companies around the world are struggling to navigate the ongoing pandemic and certain industries have shut down. Those that are operating are doing so at limited capacity and have put a hiring freeze in place. Thus, impacting CapaCiTi graduates and their ability to meet their financial obligations.

It has been a couple of months since CapaCiTi launched #LoanFree, a bold bid to ease the difficulties faced by graduates in the current job climate. The graduates who were a part of #LoanFree shared their stories about their time at CapaCiTi and what being #LoanFree means to them.

Mangaliso Nomnqa and Khaya Baloyi were a part of the graduates who are now #LoanFree. They both state that being #LoanFree has relieved them and offered opportunities to save more money.

Khaya Baloyi who now works at Proserv, states that not having to pay back the loan amount has meant being debt-free and having a qualification he can use to apply for future prospective opportunities. Mangaliso Nomnqa sends a vote of thanks to the CapaCiTi team for their help through his time at CapaCiTi,  “I would like to thank them for the opportunity they gave me, now I have experience and a firm understanding of IT”.

The programmes at CapaCiTi are focused on the “whole” person and not just imparting new technical learnings, but helping candidates gain confidence in themselves, providing an opportunity to apply their learning and focussing on job readiness, communication skills, self-awareness, and goal setting. Our objective is to reduce unemployment, grow skills, capacity and provide opportunities to young South Africans.
