CapaCiTi is changing lives and building brighter futures for unemployed youth in South Africa.

CapaCiTi is proud to aid in the development of a digital economy that is inclusive and diverse. Our candidates come from backgrounds that are often difficult, with minimal opportunities. People who might have the aptitude for a career in tech, who either can’t afford to study formally towards a qualification or are unaware of the alternative learning opportunities that are available to them. We are striving towards ensuring that those that are often without access and marginalized are offered an opportunity to increase their career prospects with relevant digital skills matched to the demands of the industry.

At the beginning of 2021, CapaCiTi Digital Career Accelerator launched the #LoanFree campaign as an offer to ease the difficulties faced by graduates in the harsh job market. CapaCiTi announced this offer to immediately cancel the contingent student loans held by its 2018, 2019 and 2020 cohorts. The Digital Career Accelerator recognised that companies around the world are struggling to navigate the ongoing pandemic and certain industries have shut down. Those that are operating are doing so at limited capacity and have put a hiring freeze in place. Thus, impacting CapaCiTi graduates and their ability to meet their financial obligations.

It has been a few months since CapaCiTi launched #LoanFree, a bold bid to ease the difficulties faced by graduates in the current job climate. The graduates who were a part of #LoanFree shared their stories about their time at CapaCiTi and what being #LoanFree means to them.

Tshepiso Makhumisane, an Intern at Car Track, states that before joining CapaCiTi she was unemployed with no prospects. She joined CapaCiTi and studied CSS, HTML, and introduction to JavaScript, from December 2019 until March 2020. She marks this as a great experience in her life, because “I had no insight on how the IT world works. This was an eye-opener for me”.

The programmes at CapaCiTi are focused on the “whole” person and not just imparting new technical learning, but helping candidates gain confidence in themselves, providing an opportunity to apply their learning and focussing on job readiness, communication skills, self-awareness, and goal setting. Our objective is to reduce unemployment, grow skills, capacity and provide opportunities to young South Africans.

Sfiso Kunene who is currently completing a learnership for Business Analysis programme also did Development as ‘System Development’ and Machine Learning as ‘Business Analysis’ in 2019 and 2020.
