A few years ago, entrepreneur Raneah Carr was handed a major curveball when she was retrenched from a job she loved. It was tough but instead of letting the setback beat her down, she saw a silver lining – she finally had the opportunity to start her own business.
“Upon reflection and where I am currently at, it was a major blessing in disguise – I should actually have started my business years ago but I’m a firm believer that there is a time and place for every transition in one’s life,” shares Raneah.
Born in the Cape Flats area, Raneah has an inherent passion for developing others especially youth and women and believes in using her profession as a vehicle to impact the lives of others.
And that’s how Carran Consulting CC was born, a proudly South African, black woman-owned project and development company based in the Western Cape.
“We display a diverse knowledge across the built environment spectrum; Our unique selling point is our ability to aid women & youth-owned enterprises through utilising the built environment as a key vehicle; we strive towards a hands-on approach ensuring unparalleled quality.”
Joining the Women in Business programme did wonder for her business, shares Raneah.
“Being in the field for many years, there are times one becomes so involved in your business that you tend to forget to do R&D with current market trends. This programme allowed me to do that and reassess the business needs. In addition, the timing was ideal as with the commencement of the Covid-19 national lockdown it shifted many small businesses into reassessment mode.”
She adds that she would definitely recommend fellow entrepreneurs to enter the programme.
“No matter the size or age of your business, a programme like this will aid any entrepreneur. It will allow a business to go back to the drawing board to assess how they are currently executing tasks and how processes can be improved and streamlined. It also creates the awareness of technology and the industry applications which are readily available. In addition, it allows one to expand on your network of female entrepreneurs.”
